Abstract:

Why do addicts engage in addictive behaviour? Do they choose to? Do they even have a choice? Many answers to these questions direct us at the individual, their moral character or their neurobiological features. But what if these explanations fail? In my talk, I utilise the concept of hermeneutical injustice to provide an explanation that directs us to an social epistemological answer to the question of addiction.
